Nepal Trip 2025
6 March - Pashupatinath Temple
We visited Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. This is a complex of Hindu temples to Shiva. We watched several cremations on the banks of the Bagmati river. I found it a little difficult walking through the mourners, some clearly in grief. Small family groups would gather on the banks and perform rituals in what looked a little like small picnics.

6 March – Boudha Stupa
After the Pashupatinath Temple we went to the Stupa at Boudhanath, Kathmandu. This stupa stands within its own square surrounded by cafés and shops. There is also a painting school where women are taught to reproduce intricate Buddhist artwork. We had a talk on the production of thangka and the aims of the school. I bought a Wheel of Life painting a little like this one.

6 March – Swayambhunath
From the Boudha Stupa we went to Swayambhunath, which is a religious complex on top of a nearby hill. It is sometimes referred to as the monkey temple because of the monkeys that live there.

6 March – Bhojan Bhumi, Thamel
In the evening we were introduced to the dal bhat, a very popular meal. The Bhojan Bhumi restaurant in Thamel featured some dancers, who managed to get us joining in eventually.
